You want to change your self-care habits and you can't seem to do it. Or, you realize that changing your self-care habits might be a good idea but you just can't seem to get on board and be sold on the idea. Maybe the words that you're thinking and saying are getting in your way.

Let's look at an example. You joined a gym and paid for the whole year. It's yours for the taking. Today is the day you'll go. What kind of thoughts might stop you?

- I might do the exercises wrong

- I'm fine the way I am, I don't need to go to the gym

- I have too much else to do

- I'll never be thin/healthy/strong so why bother

- I'll go tomorrow

So what can you do?

Whatever you say or think about yourself is what will come true - choose what that will be! Rick Carson, who wrote the wonderful self-help book "Taming your gremlin", says, "a belief is just an opinion to which you've developed loyalty." Wow, if that's true, then you can challenge and even change your beliefs! I've decided that it's true - how about you?

How to choose your words and thoughts more powerfully

1. Notice that your thoughts come and go and that you choose whether or not to pay attention to them. Play with how much you pay attention to them. When negative thoughts come up, try to purposefully "think positively" and tell yourself the opposite.

2. Instead of thinking and talking about what you DON'T want or what you DON'T like, focus your energies on the opposite. What DO you want? What DO you like? Have gratitude and appreciation when those things appear in your life and you will easily attract more of them.

3. Listen for when you say the word "but" - especially at the beginning of a sentence. Notice what happens when you replace it with "AND". There are many things that can be true at any given time. When you say AND instead of BUT you're opening your mind to other truths.

4. Dr. Daniel G. Amen, author of "Change your brain, change your life", cautions negative thinkers to think before giving an "automatic no". He suggests taking a few deep breaths and deciding if this is what you truly want to say. For instance, if someone invites you to coffee, and you're staring at a pile of work, your inclination might be to say, "no, I don't have time for that." Stay with it for a moment - what would the payoff be of accepting the invitation? Maybe you will be more energized and motivated to finish your work once you've done something enjoyable.

5. Notice which words & thoughts seem to limit you and keep you from improving your self-care habits, and which ones seem to motivate and encourage you. Which ones get in your way and which ones expand your belief about what's possible?

6. Notice the impact of your chosen words on the people you are talking to and spending time with.

7. Notice how your self-care habits affect your mood and your ability to think positively. I know that if I don't eat balanced, healthy meals that are timed evenly throughout the day, or if I don't get enough sleep, I'm bound to get caught in some negative thinking that I have to consciously find my way out of.

So talk back to your negative thoughts:

- I might do the exercises wrong I can ask for help

- I'm fine the way I am, I don't need to go to the gym I'm fine and I will be even better when I'm taking better care of myself

- I have too much else to do Yes, and if I practice self-care I will be healthy and strong enough to do more things that I enjoy

- I'll never be thin/healthy/strong so why bother Every minute at the gym takes me closer to my goal

- I'll go tomorrow YES! And today as well

Have you ever noticed how many unhappy people there are in this world of ours? Almost every time I venture out I come in contact with them. You see them in the stores, the market, on the roads ~ everywhere. They are the ones who don't seem to know how to look pleasant. Their faces are scrunched up in ugly frowns, they sigh and grumble a lot. They're rude to store clerks and restaurant servers. They honk their horns if traffic doesn't move fast enough to suit them. They let the door slam in your face as you enter a store. They yell at their children and lose their tempers if they are made to wait.

They seem to be chronically angry. Nothing seems to please them. What's wrong with them?

Maybe their lives haven't turned out the way they had planned ~ maybe the stress of everyday living is too much for them ~ maybe they hold bitterness and resentment inside until it becomes visible for all to see. And ~ maybe a few of them are just having a bad day.

When you meet these kinds of people your first inclination is to stay as far away from them as possible. That's probably the safest thing to do! ; ) But sometimes, if you make an effort to talk with them, maybe just smile and say hello, you find their countenance changes ~ they almost seem surprised that anyone would make the effort to connect with them. Their faces soften and they smile back at you. At times just saying "hi" to one of these people can start a pleasant conversation.

One day at the grocery store I happened to get a cashier who really looked surly! I asked her if she was having a bad day. That started a ten minute conversation in which she told me she had been working 16 straight days without a break; that she was getting married in a month and had a million things left to do for the wedding. As she talked she became more animated and began to smile. As I left, I noticed she greeted the customer in line behind me in a pleasant, happy voice.

Maybe the fact that someone took the time to speak with her and was willing to listen to her story was enough to make her feel a little better. Sometimes we all feel isolated from our fellow man. We focus so intently on what's wrong with our lives, with our world, that we fail to see the goodness around us. All of our negative thinking makes us miserable and that's the face we present to others. We may not even be aware of what we're doing or how we appear. When that happens all it may take to bring us out of our self-imposed misery is a kind word from someone, even a stranger.

We're told that, in large part, we create our own unhappiness. I believe that's true. Whether we want to believe it or not, our attitudes play a significant role in how happy or unhappy we are. There are people who can take things in stride that would bring others to their knees. What's the difference between the two? Maybe it's as simple as the way people react to the things that happen in their lives. Some people look at problems as challenges, others look at them as roadblocks. The first group finds ways to resolve issues, the second group develops a defeatist attitude and doesn't even try.

When we come up against an obstacle we have a choice. We can whine about how unfair it is or we can do something to remove it. It's our decision. If we choose to do nothing, nothing will be accomplished and we'll fail to progress beyond that point. If we continually choose to do nothing we end up with a life of frustration and broken dreams. Our self esteem plummets and we see ourselves as losers. Or, we may feel victimized and become resentful and bitter. Either way we're going to miss out on much of the goodness life has to offer.

We have the power to literally change our lives. All we have to do is change our attitudes toward life. Making the changes isn't always easy but it can be done. I'm living proof of that. I used to be very negative, always focusing on the bad rather than the good. I was the proverbial "glass half empty" type of person. That kind of attitude is self-perpetuating unless you make a decision to change it and start concentrating on the good things that happen.

No life is without its bumps and sometimes it seems like you're driving over boulders, but that's okay. Peter Marshall wrote, "When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure." We have to accept those bumps and feel confident that they will help us grow stronger.

We all have blessings to be grateful for ~ it's those we must rely on to support us when we hit a rough patch on our journey. It's up to us to make the best of bad situations and develop the ability to see life as an endless stream of wonderful possibilities. To react in any other way drastically limits our capacity for joy and happiness.

That being said, it's up to all of us to do what we can to make it easier for others to see the positive side of life. Not only does it help them, it makes us feel better too. So next time you see someone who looks like a thundercloud, summon up your courage, stand tall and make a simple human connection.

One of the most important aspects of living a healthy and prosperous life is understanding "risk." By this I mean knowing how to understand and analyze situations in life that affect health. Being able to accurately weigh benefits and risks when making health decisions is very important! Too often decisions are based on incomplete or inaccurate information and this is a huge mistake with significant consequences!

Failure to accurately assess risk keeps people locked in all kinds of unhealthy situations including poor eating and exercise habits (lifestyle), relationships and jobs. Sometimes people are just afraid to step out and make a change. They see "risk" in making a change when the REAL risk comes from NOT making a change. From my perspective, living with the stress, unhappiness and frustration of indecision and poor health is the greatest risk of all, and one that is definitely not worth taking!

Accessing "risk" is nothing more than collecting information, weighing the alternatives and then making appropriate decisions based on the information.

Some risks to our health are more "real" than others. For example, it is common knowledge that obesity is associated with a wide variety of health problems. On the other hand, there are some health risks that are so remote we rarely think about them. On a practical level, eating highly processed foods and avoiding a daily dose of fresh fruits and vegetables is rarely considered serious. But, as too many have already discovered, the long range consequences of this practice are real and devastating.

Failure to accurately assess risk limits us in many ways. We imagine the "risk" of talking with our children about drugs, dating or sex and we put off having the "talk," even though the risks of NOT talking are infinitely greater. Fear of flying and public speaking are two more "risks" affecting millions of people. But practically speaking, these fears are unfounded. People ride in cars every day, even though cars are far more dangerous than commercial aircraft! It's a failure to accurately assess risk, and it limits our health, prosperity and pleasure in life.

The goods news is that failure to accurately access risk is reversible! The effects of those decisions to eat inappropriately or NOT to exercise are, as the common expression goes, "do-overs." We can effect positive change in our lives by following a few simple steps to accurately access risk:

1. Accurately define your present situation and access your health "risks". Are you eating a healthy diet? Are you getting enough exercise and good quality sleep? What are the consequences if you DON'T change? Weigh the benefits of healthier living vs the potential risks such as increased cost, inconvenience or discomfort.

2. What do you stand to gain if you change your present circumstances? Assess the "up-side" potential. Too often we look only at the "downside" risk and forget the benefits. What good things might happen if you take the risk and win?

3. Limit the "down-side" if you happen to make a wrong decision. Don't continue down a path if it does not produce results. This is especially important when following weight loss programs. If the pounds are not coming off or if the weight loss is only temporary, find a new program! You not only want to lose weight, but want to sustain the weight loss for as long as possible. Take steps to ensure this will happen. Clear, concise, realistic objectives will definitely help.

4. Reduce your risk by being smart! Understand the situation and seek the advice of experts in the field of health and nutrition. This includes finding and forming partnerships to receive support and get good advice.

5. Have a fall-back position. If the decision you make fails to produce the desired results, be prepared to take a long, hard look at the circumstances and be prepared to change what you are doing.

Everything in life involves some element of risk. Driving your car, meeting someone new, crossing the street...but we do them every day. Winners in life are willing to accept the risk and continue on their way! Get involved, be smart about how you play the game, come prepared for a few failures along the way, but don't quite. You will reap the benefits for your effort and live a happier and healthier life. I like to remember the words of the great Winston Churchill when he said, "Never, never, never give up!"

We all need encouragement. Even the most callous, hard headed self made person needs encouragement to stay on track and move forward. This isn't news - it is something we all know.

Unfortunately many times we don't take action on what we know.

We can change our habits about encouragement - we can choose to become a more encouraging person. This will have a positive impact on our results and satisfaction in a variety of roles we play in life - from leader to co-worker to team member to parent to family member.

Below are five specific ways that you can become more encouraging starting as soon as you finish reading this article.

Encourage with your eyes. Don't underestimate the importance and value of solid eye contact. Think about the people you know who always seem to make good eye contact with you. How do you feel about them? Do you feel that they support and believe in you? Do they seem to care more? This is a glimpse at how powerful good solid eye contact can be. Perhaps these people haven't said anything to give you encouragement, but their presence and eye contact show you anyway. Use your eyes to be encouraging - make eye contact with people.

Encourage with your face. This is perhaps the easiest of all. Smile. A smile is a powerful encourager. It tells people that they are ok. It tells people that what they are doing is ok. For some people smiling comes naturally while others need to be more conscious to smile. You know which you are. Either way there are probably more opportunities and more situations where you can flash your pearly whites. Smile. You will be encouraging when you do and you will feel better yourself.

Encourage with your lips. Of course we can say encouraging things. In fact, when you started reading this list, I'll bet you expected the whole list to be things to say or situations in which to say them. We all know how to be encouraging with our words. So do it. Be supportive. Give people specific comments and encouragement on who they are and what they are doing. Let them know that they matter. Let them know how their work adds value. Encourage with your lips.

Encourage with your feet. Encouragement can come in the form of being there. Sit in on the meeting someone asks you to attend, even if you know they can handle it. Go to the ball game. Your presence and attention can be powerful encouragers and motivators. Be aware that your actions in themselves can be encouraging, so act accordingly. First you must be there, and then you must behave in encouraging ways.

Encourage with your head. If all you see is what people are doing wrong, it is hard to be encouraging. The biggest barrier some of us have to overcome to become more encouraging is in our head - we aren't looking for and therefore seeing the right things. We must focus on and look for the positive things. Look for the good. Then use your feet, lips,Y face and eyes to communicate those encouraging messages.

Get up from your chair now. Pick one of these approaches and practice it right now.

Write these five things down on an index card and carry it with you for the next three weeks. Refer to the card often as a reminder to continue to use these approaches to becoming more encouraging.

A more positive future, a happier life, a body that's in better shape or a wealthier mind begins by a winning belief system. Beliefs shape our destiny and the more supporting they are, the more we are able to achieve our goals.

Positive beliefs, like "I can do it" "I have tremendous resources to succeed" have been formed through experiences, especially during your childhood. In the same way, negative or limiting beliefs, like "I'm worthless" "I don't deserve to succeed" "I don't have the permission to succeed" have been formed at an early age.

To succeed at any endeavor, you need to develop and maintain five powerful beliefs.

You need to literally transform these limiting beliefs and sure you can, because as they have been learned (through experiences, ideas...), they can be unlearned, restructured and changed.

Ask, ponder and integrate the answers to the five following key questions. For each statement, rate your degree of belief from 1 to 5.

1. Do I deserve it?

This has to do with you. This has to do with your feelings of self-worth. "Do I deserve, do I have the permission to be a millionaire?" "Do I have the permission to remain centered, instead of stressed and depressed" Feel this question in your entire body. This is an essential step that your whole body and mind need to accept and integrate.

2. Am I capable of doing it?

This next part concerns your plan that you've outlined to achieve your goal. "Am I capable of taking appropriate action, following the different steps I set up to succeed?" Once you've answered that question affirmatively, integrate this in your body and mind. You don't only need to know it cognitively but also emotionally. Your body is not just made up of a cognitive mind, but with emotions and feelings and the whole system needs to accept it.

3. Is it appropriate for me?

This has to do with the actions and behaviors themselves. "Are the actions and behaviors I need to take appropriate?" This is an important question. The actions and behaviors need to be ethical, practical and down-to-earth. Evaluate and decide if your actions are appropriate. If not, change them. You don't only want to set goals in your life, you want to become congruent and live in harmony with your core values.

4. Is it possible?

Here we need to look at the path to reach your goal. "Am I convinced that it is possible to achieve my goal with these appropriate steps?" The path may be long or difficult. You need to build a strong belief that it is possible to follow the path that leads to great success. You need to persist and never give up when it becomes tough.

5. Is the outcome desirable?

This point analyses the outcome itself. "Is the goal in harmony with who I am?" Again, this is a congruency issue. Define the big reason why of this goal and you will find that what you really want is truly desirable.

There are five basic elements to reach any outcome: you, the plan, the actions and behaviors, the path and the outcome itself. The belief you will develop for each element will form a winning belief system that will empower you in achieving anything you really want out of life.

If you're not happy with the results you have, consider the following questions. First, what else do I have to know, believe or do in order to be more confident? Second, do I have a mentor that can help me for this particular belief? Third, what advice or message would my mentor give to me?

In doing that for each of the five core beliefs to attaining any goal, you will build high level of self-confidence.

These winning beliefs will give you more self-esteem and you will soon become unstoppable.

As I swooshed down the Zoom Flume water slide at Shipwreck Island, my two-year-old son Gareth yelling "Fun! Weeee!" from his spot on my lap, I felt pure jubilation. The sun kissed my skin, water splashed up around me and the breeze carried a salt tang from the ocean mingled with the scent of sun screen. I could taste joy as it tingled in every cell of my being.

To experience joy is our purpose in life. If you want to know if you're going in the right direction in life, follow happiness, do what feels good to you. And when you feel joy and happiness, whether you go searching for it or stumble upon it inadvertently, savor it. Like attracts like. Joy multiplies quickly if given attention.

Next comes gratitude. Be grateful for the things that bring you joy! If you feel joy, follow it immediately with gratitude. Joy is a tremendous gift. When you feel gratitude for the joy in your life, you are attracting more joy and gratitude into your life. Which is a really fun game! Joy, gratitude, fun -- a recipe for success.

Think of all the little things that cause joy in your life that you have to be grateful for. The more you focus on them, the more joy you will experience. These are some of the things that have brought me joy in the last few days: Gareth laughing, singing, talking, sleeping like an angel with his alabaster cheeks lit by lamplight. A banana split with lots of whipped cream and cherries. My favorite summer TV show. Dancing and singing with Gareth in the living room. My new business. Being alive. Washing jewel toned grapes and observing the droplets of water clinging to their deep purple-red skin.

Sometimes we stand with our hands on our hips going, "where's the joy in my life?" and really there are a million little wonders all around us. To create the bigger things you want in life, you must appreciate the little things. You must savor every bit of joy around you. Living is a great gift in and of itself. By actively looking for joy and gratitude, you are magnetizing yourself, becoming irresistible to happiness and passion and fun.

So take notice of the little things and have gratitude. Create your own cosmic game. See how many times a day you can find something to be joyful about and be thankful for. Remember the joy of living and all the delicious things you have to enjoy. In this game, there are only winners. So play life!

Have you ever considered that you may be subconsciously sabotaging and inhibiting your own potential positive emotions through the position of your head and the manner in which you breathe?

What I want you to do right now is pop your chin on your chest and bring into your mind a negative image or thought. Take a few minutes to focus on this thought with your chin down.

Now, what I want you to try next is this. While holding the same thought in your mind raise your chin off your chest, bring your head up, and stand tall.

What I found (and I'm sure you did also) was that when you bring your head up and stand proud the negative image or thought becomes less intense. Essentially, it begins to dissipate!

This should highlight to you the value of holding, and having, a good posture in terms of feeling more positive even in a difficult or so called negative predicament.

Finally, try this also. This time have a positive thought in your mind and have your chin down. Next, raise your chin up, be proud and see how vivid the positive image becomes.

Now, finally add some deep breathing into the mix. Focus on the positive mental image while breathing energy and passion into your body and mind.

Take note of the positive energy you are drawing into your body and consciously try and combine it with the image. This is an amazing way to draw yourself closer to your goals while simultaneously improving health.

So, the next time you want to alter your mindset, pay attention to your head position and breathing and you will be propelling yourself towards health and achievement quicker than ever!

Heard of a raindance? It is a ritual used by native shamen to influence the heavens. It is a bit like bending spoons, you have to believe in something that goes against your normal perceptions of reality. Bit like a sceptic or a mystic, both will see what they believe. In the polarity of life, both sceptic and mystic are needed for balance. A bit like good and bad weather. Each one is relative to the other. Too much sun causes a desert. Too much rain causes a flood.

So what, you ask?

The same principles of the raindance can apply to being happy or unhappy. Do a rain-dance to change your moods. Look for the little teardrops to soften a hardened heart? Find the tiny sunbeam when you only see dark clouds of despair. Find the dance within you. Believe in the magic inside you. Feel it happening. Then see it happen. Some people are conditioned to seeing the worst in life. They will turn good fortune into potential misfortune within a couple of words. Do you know such people? I once knew a successful woman who managed to darken a bright day quite quickly. You might know someone like this.

"How are things going today?", I asked her over a cuppa.

She proceeded to fill the whole conversation with a series of moans.

Staff problems, cannot find good staff ... big moan.

My husband has serious control problem ... big moan.

Her car needed a tune-up ... big moan.

I start laughing.

Her face reddens. "What is so $%#*&^ funny?"

I said, "You are one miserable #$%^^&^@. Your problems are someone's dreams right now. Get a grip. You have a business. You have a husband. You have a car. A Tsunami victim right now probably has no home or is still missing. Right now someone is on life support in your local hospital. Their family is crying and holding hands outside in the waiting room. So stop your &^%$^^^%^ moaning and start being grateful".

She stared at me. My words sinking in. Icy silence. Then she started to laugh. A small laugh at first. Soon we were both laughing. Sometimes we all need some honest feedback that cuts straight through to the core.

Life is never going to be perfect. Life is what we make of it right NOW. We've have all been miserable, and we've all been happy. Guess what? We will continue to experience misery and happiness. We need to keep it in perspective like the weather. It does not mean we need to be happy 24/7/365 days a year. It would be too much of a strain. Aim to be happy most of the time. Yet allow time for unhappiness. Allow time for feeling pain, grief, sadness and loneliness. These are all part of the wheel of life. Just make sure to keep the wheel turning rather than getting stuck in the same ole muddy patch.

So do a rain-dance. Do something to change your state of mind. Jump up and down. Make it rain tears of laughter.

Getting motivated is sometimes easy enough to do, at least for short periods of time, but staying motivated can be a lot harder to do.

And when you add into the mix the presence of negative people it is really not surprising that your motivation can fizzle out despite your best intentions.

What can you do?

1. Do Not Discuss Your Dreams with Negative People

Only share your hopes, dreams and goals with people who will be supportive of your plans. Making your dreams come true is like tending to a garden.

You have to give the plants the nutrients, water and sunlight they need to grow i.e. for you this means - the resources, mental focus and energy to create something new.

And you have to pay constant attention to weeding and eradicating bugs that will over run your garden if you are not vigilant. i.e. protect your dreams from negative people by not exposing your plans to their toxic words and thoughts.

2. When You Get Stuck Seek Advice from People Who Can Help

Very often when you get stuck you will turn to whoever is nearby for encouragement and advice. This can be a big mistake if that person has no vision and a limited sense of possibility.

Only ask for advice from people who are qualified to help you. When you act on good advice you know you are doing the right things and staying motivated will be easy.

Whereas when someone with no relevant knowledge or no sense of possibility advises you it makes sense to be unmotivated.

Why take action on bad advice? Why even try if that person cannot see things working out?

Avoid this negative world view by carefully deciding who to get advice from.

3. Switch Off Your Own Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts can be like a virus that just keeps on spreading. If people around you are negative it is only normal for you to lose a little of your own enthusiasm and drive.

You may even start to have a few nagging negative thoughts of you own.

Be careful!

One such negative thought leads to another, and another...

You need to switch off these negative thoughts ASAP or else your motivation will fizzle away to nothing.

Everything exists twice. First, in your mind. Later, before you in three-dimensional space.

In your mind, then, create a perfect room. See yourself sitting in the middle of it, buried deep in the folds of a huge, comfortable chair that feels as soft as a cloud. See a smile of contentment float across your face.

Closing your eyes as you sit or snuggle in your favorite chair and begin to invent the rest of the room. Fill it up with your favorite things. It might have luxurious furniture, or it might be an art studio, a library, or anything else that would make you feel that you are in your element. Let the room be an expression of you.

Now shape the walls. Do you want brick walls? Do you want to be in a geodesic dome? Do you feel an adobe dwelling would work for you? Choose the ideal shape, form, color and textures of your walls.

Finally, place your room wherever you feel most secure and yet excited. Do you want it sitting on a mountaintop overlooking a breathtaking valley or an infinite ocean? Do you want it in a glass bubble in the depths of the ocean?

Now that you're ensconced in your "cave" begin to project how your life could be.

Imagine what it would be like to have your ideal body.

Imagine what it would be like to be with people you love all day long.

Imagine the freedom to do work or play that you find truly exhilarating.

Surround yourself with the resources that you need to be living your unique and fascinating destiny.

Spend time doing this exercise, luxuriate in it. Make this daydream long and deep.

This exercise will open up your mind to your possibilities.

Do not concern yourself with how you will realize your ideal scene. Leave that to your subconscious mind.

Your task is simply to dream boldly. The details will then become apparent to you over time.

Imagine, just for a moment, if you could create a life-pattern where you could live your ideal day.

It's a fact of life - if you want to succeed in business, you need to know how to interact and communicate effectively with your employees, business partners, vendors, prospects, and customers. As a small business owner, this might involve rapid shifting from one type of language to another. For example, how you'd explain your expectations to your employees might be different than how you'd convey these to your business partner or potential client.

As we all know, sometimes language breaks down, and communication grinds to a halt. This can leave the owner feeling irritable, angry, frustrated... and with a desire to vent to his/her employees or staff.

While there may be instances that such sharing would be appropriate or helpful, there are many instances where this is not the case, and venting anyway may result in a significant loss of credibility and respect from key employees and contacts.

So, what are some effective ways to manage emotions in the work place environment?

1. Good self-care is the best medicine. An employer who tends to his/her own physical, emotional and mental needs, regularly, is going to be more adept at managing negative or hostile emotions at work. Start with adequate sleep, good nutrition, and regular exercise.

2. Know what anger and frustration feels like to you - both in your head and in your body. Sometimes, we can get really "cut off" from our feelings and act rashly without knowing why. Spend some time knowing what anger feels like to you, and where you notice it in your body.

3. Take a 10 minute walk. When you desire to "vent", excuse yourself from the office and take a brisk 10 minute walk around the parking lot or neighborhood. This will clear your mind and may save you from losing your temper.

4. Vent to a mentor, coach, or trusted colleague. The act of sharing your frustration and fears will calm you down. These people can support you and help you move forward.

5. Ask, "What am I afraid of?". Most often, anger or frustration appears when one of our fears has been activated. By going directly for the source of your feelings, you may be able to short-circuit them.

6. Make an exhaustive "do not want" list. In this list, you write down everything you do NOT want in the situation such as "to look foolish", "to be unprepared", etc.. Once you write this all down - ALL OF IT- you will clear your mind and be ready to generate productive solutions.

7. Distract yourself. Sometimes, getting your mind off the upsetting subject is enough to calm you down. Consider closing your door and playing computer games or something equally mindless (but absorbing). Shifting your focus will shift your attitude.

8. Ask, "What's working about this situation?" This tip comes from Kurt Wright's book, "Breaking the Rules", and suggests that we all can manage stress better if we start looking at "what's working" rather than "what's wrong". Many times, communication breakdowns or glitches can show you where better systems need to be created and placed and ultimately, will enhance the viability of your organization.

9. Take an action. Sometimes, when one piece of the business plan isn't moving, it may mean that another part is ready to be acted upon. Rather than feeling annoyed and frustrated, transform that energy into positive movement forward, where you can.

10. Make a strong request. If you would like something to be different, start the process of making it so. Contact key people, letting them know that you'd like to work on the impasse, and make your needs and those of your business known. Sometimes, just communicating about your desires in the form of an appropriate request can move situations along.

4. Practice Guided Visualization. This technique involves sitting comfortably, and listening to a tape or an instructor who guides you through a relaxing scenario. The setting is calm, tranquil, and peaceful allowing your mind and body to connect. You can create what you visualize, and with the aid of your subconscious mind, the possibilities are limitless!

5. Get Organized. Organizing your surroundings, and managing your time wisely helps give you a clear head for making wise choices. Your choices are dependent on your thoughts that precede it. How can you make a wise decision if your thoughts are cluttered and unorganized? Start organizing your life now, and see how fast you can change your life.

If your life is difficult--if it's challenging, exasperating, and vexatious-- then it's time to tap the goodness within.
